Davidheiser's Career Game Leads Wilkes Men's Basketball in Victory over FDU-Florham
WILKES-BARRE –
Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) scored a career high 25 points to lead the Wilkes University men's basketball team to a 79-52 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham Campus on Saturday at the Marts Center.
With the win Wilkes improved to 5-10 overall and to 3-6 in the conference. FDU-Florham dropped to 3-14 overall and 0-9 in the league.
Davidheiser's 25 points came on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor including 5-of-8 from three point range and in 30 minutes of action.
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) scored over 20 points for the second consecutive game as he finished with 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting. He also led Wilkes with seven rebounds.
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) finished with four points, four rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and three steals.
Wilkes was off to a fast start, leading 9-2 following a Davidheiser jumper with just over four minutes gone in the game. A Marshall layup gave Wilkes its first double-digit lead at 15-5 and the Devils never cut the first-half lead to less than seven with the Colonels eventually leading 39-22 at the break following a late Marshall layup.
Marshall's three with 16:23 remaining in the game pushed the Colonels lead over 20 points at 49-28. The Colonels continued to cruise as the second half went on, building its largest lead of 31 points following a
Bradley Anacreon (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) jumper with 2:46 left.
Wilkes shot 33-of-59 (55.9%) from the floor for the game and 11-of-22 (50.0%) from three-point range. The Colonels also outrebounded the Devils 40-27 and had 19 assists to FDU-Florham's six.
The Colonels will remain home for a non-conference game on Monday hosting Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 7:00 p.m. inside the Marts Center.
