Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Alvernia Power Play Goal
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University Colonels women's ice hockey squad played United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe Alvernia for the second time in three days at the Toyota SportsPlex Sunday afternoon.
The Colonels (1-13, 1-11) battled hard but couldn't overcome a Golden Wolves (7-7-1, 5-4-1) first period goal and lost 1-0. Olivia Gilida notched the only score on the power play at 12:29 in the first period.
The Golden Wolves outshot the Colonels 36-31, with senior goaltender
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) recording 35 saves and locked out Alvernia at even strength. Julia Beaven pitched a shutout in goal with 31 saves. Sophomore
Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) won 13 of 23 faceoffs for the Colonels.
The Navy and Gold take a day off tomorrow before returning to the Toyota SportsPlex Tuesday to face crosstown rival King's. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in a series the Colonels currently lead 2-1.
