Joly Earns Shutout, Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Takes Home Senior Day Victory

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels returned to the Toyota SportsPlex Sunday afternoon to complete a home doubleheader against United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe Arcadia.

The Colonels (3-14-0, 3-12-0) emerged victorious as they celebrated Senior Day with a 1-0 victory over the Knights (7-12-0, 6-8-0).

Senior forward Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT/) started and ended the scoring at 7:55 in the first period with an assist from junior defender Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ/).  Arcadia would have their chances with four power play opportunities and 52 shots on goal, but failed to get past senior goalkeeper Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI).  Arcadia's last chances came with 18 seconds left, with a power play and an empty net, but Joly would record three saves in the waning moments of the game to send the Navy and Gold home victorious

Joly finished the day with 52 saves in net, while Hannah Bergeron took a one-goal loss with 20 saves.   The teams were essentially even on faceoffs, with the Knights winning 23 faceoffs to the Colonels 22.

The Colonels return to the ice next Friday in Paxton, Ma. for an 8:00 p.m. puck drop against Anna Maria.  The two teams met twice before, with each program taking a victory at the Toyota SportsPlex back in 2019.
