Eddinger Named Assistant Sports Information Director at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University Athletic Director Addy Malatesta has announced that Mark Eddinger has been elevated to the University's full-time Assistant Sports Information Director position.

Eddinger takes over for Adam Planamento, who was the first full-time Assistant Sports Information Director at Wilkes, as he has moved into the role of Director of Athletic Communications at Arcadia University.

Eddinger began at Wilkes as a Sports Information Assistant in August of 2017. He has spent the past five years helping publicize all 23 varsity sports including stating home games with NCAA Live Stats and StatCrew, the creation of game notes and programs, updating record books, nominating student-athletes for awards, and providing commentary on the live stream for games.

"Mark has worked tirelessly over the past five years promoting our student-athletes through his role as sports information assistant," said Sports Information Director Vince Scalzo. "He is someone who is deeply committed to Wilkes and its mission and will continue to dedicate his skills to enhancing our sports information platform in his new position as Assistant Sports Information Director," he added.

Prior to starting at Wilkes, Eddinger spent the previous year assisting in the Sports Information office at Cheyney University, where he served as an inputter on StatCrew for multiple home events during the 2016-17 season. He also served an internship with the New York Mets AA affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y. where he wrote post-game web stories and created player bio packets for the media.

Eddinger has previous experience in radio, hosting two sports talk shows as an undergrad and serving as play-by-play and color commentator for broadcasts on the Big Ten Network, gopsusports.com, and ComRadio.

"It is a great honor and very exciting to be promoted to the Assistant Sports Information Director position at Wilkes University," Eddinger said. "I would like to thank Athletic Director Addy Malatesta, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Paul Adams, and Sports Information Director Vince Scalzo, for this opportunity to continue to promote all of the terrific Wilkes student-athletes and their accomplishments."

Eddinger graduated from Penn State University in 2010 with a degree in Print Journalism and with a minor in Business and Liberal Arts. He resides in Mountain Top, Pa. with his wife Kayla Eddinger, daughter Kelsey Dewey and son Shawn.

He begins his duties as Assistant Sports Information Director on January 31st.
