Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls 5-2 to Chatham Barrage
PITTSBURGH, PA – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey squad started their post-holiday break schedule with their first of two games at United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe Chatham Friday night.
The Colonels (1-8, 1-6 UCHC) suffered their seventh straight loss as they fell 5-2 to the Cougars (6-6, 5-4).
The goals came in streaks for both squads, with the Cougars putting home shots on net at 00:22 and 9:26 in the first period. The Colonels replied by tying up the game in the first six minutes of the second period. Senior defender
Valerie Koenig (Arlington, TX/) put home a power play goal at 00:55 with an assist from junior defender
Abby Miller (Webster, NY). Koenig would assist senior forward
Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT/) at 5:45 to tie up the game 2-2.
The Cougars would net the last three goals to close out their victory on the evening, with goals at 13:21 in the second and at 2:49 and 11:52 in the third period to take home a 5-2 victory over the Colonels. Chatham outshot the Colonels 70-17, with sophomore goaltender
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) recording a career-high 65 saves in the loss. Koenig posted her second game of the season with two points for Wilkes.
The Navy and Gold look to snap their losing streak as they face Chatham once again at Pittsburgh, Pa. tomorrow. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. as the Colonels seek their first-ever victory over Chatham.
