Four Goals Propels Delaware Valley Over Wilkes Field Hockey
EDWARDSVILLE – Delaware Valley University scored four goals to push them past Wilkes University field hockey in a 4-0 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest on Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes falls to 2-10 on the year and 0-5 in MAC Freedom play. Delaware Valley improves to 6-7 this season and 2-2 in conference games.
Delaware Valley started off the game quickly as they scored a goal 3:35 into the first quarter. Jordan Pugh (Plains, PA/James M. Coughlin) took a shot to break the tie near the end of the first that went wide left. Both teams kept going down the field, with both teams getting corner opportunities with Delaware Valley edging the Colonels 4-2. The Aggies would capitalize on a corner in the second quarter, scoring in front of the goal near the end of the second quarter to extend Delaware Valley's lead 2-0.
The start of the second half saw Wilkes try to get on the board, with Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) taking a shot that went wide right. The Aggies would make the Colonels pay as they took multiple shots, eventually finding the back of the net to take a 3-0 lead halfway through the third quarter.
Devon Donley (Dauphin, PA/Bishop McDevitt) would push the pace herself, going to the front of the goal and taking a shot that would be saved by the Aggies goalie. The Aggies would finish the scoring barrage with a goal five minutes into the fourth quarter.
Delaware Valley would save a shot from Lauren Shiplett (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) from a corner attempt. The Aggies would outshoot Wilkes 11-7 through the game, with both teams taking 7 corners throughout the night.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with four saves on the night for the Colonels.
Wilkes goes on the road this Saturday in MAC Freedom action when they face Arcadia University at 12:00 p.m.
