Wilkes Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at King's
WILKES-BARRE –Leading 1-0 with under three minutes to play, the Wilkes women's soccer team was unable to hang on for the win as host King's College scored the game-tying goal as the two cross-town rivals settled for a tie Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
Wilkes moved to 2-9-2 overall and 0-3-1 in MAC Freedom matches following the road conference tie. King's stands 7-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference contests.
The teams went scoreless through the first 45 minutes with the Colonels dominating play in their offensive end outshooting King's 11-1 in the half while also garnering five corner kick attempts.
Wilkes finally broke through early in the second frame when
Erica Feese (State College, PA/State College Area) broke through and fired a shot to the low right of the goal to put the Colonels ahead 1-0.
King's answered late when Leah Sankey found the back of the net off an assist from Liz Porto at 87:08 which tied the game at one where it remained until the final horn.
Wilkes outshot King's 19-5 throughout while finishing with seven corners to King's three attempts.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) made one save in net for Wilkes while King's Tara Bender finished with seven saves in the draw.
The Colonels return to MAC Freedom play Saturday when they continue their road stretch with a match at Delaware Valley University at 4:00 p.m.
