Feese's Game-Winner Lifts Wilkes Women's Soccer Over Delaware Valley
DOYLESTOWN, PA –
Holly Feese (State College, PA/State College Area) notched the game-winning goal late in the first half to lift the visiting Wilkes University women's soccer team to a 1-0 MAC Freedom victory over Delaware Valley University Saturday afternoon at James Work Memorial Stadium.
The Colonels improved to 3-9-2 overall and picked up their first conference win moving to 1-3-1 in league play. Delaware Valley dropped to 6-8-1 overall and remained winless at 0-5 in conference matches.
The teams went scoreless through the first half until Feese drilled the eventual game-winning goal at the 29:33 mark to give the Colonels the 1-0 advantage.
From there Wilkes kept control of the midfield limiting the Aggies scoring chances to hang on to the one goal road victory.
Wilkes held a 20-11shot advantage with 12 coming on goal. The Colonels kept pressure on the Aggies backline all afternoon leading to 14 corner kicks.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with a season-high eight saves in net recording her second shutout of the year. Olivia Sherwood made 11 saves for the Aggies in the loss.
Wilkes is back in action Tuesday with another MAC Freedom matchup against No. 3 Misericordia University at 7:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field
