Wilkes Women's Soccer Upended by No. 2 Misericordia
EDWARDSVILLE – The No. 2 Misericordia University women's soccer team scored six goals in the first half on way to a 9-0 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over host Wilkes University Tuesday night at Bruggeworth Field.
Wilkes slipped to 3-10-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference matches following the home defeat. Misericordia, who moved up to the No. 2 ranking in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association poll, improved to 13-0-1, and remain unbeaten in league play at 5-0.
Misericordia wasted little time finding the back of the net as Kaylee Sturans scored giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead six minutes into the match. Two minutes later Sturans stuck again pushing the lead to 2-0. From there goals at the 28:55, 31:16, 41:23 and 44:01 marks gave the Cougars a 6-0 advantage at the half.
The Cougars added three more goals in the second half scoring at 56:21 and 59:23 before their last strike at 87:03.
Misericordia held a 31-7 shot advantage while garnering eight corners in the contest.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) started in net for Wilkes finishing with seven saves in 45 minutes.
Lauren Sweeney (West Chester, PA/West Chester Rustin) played the second half posting three saves.
Wilkes concludes its non-conference schedule Saturday hosting College of Mount Saint Vincent on Senior Day starting at 1:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field.
