Five Different Players Score as FDU-Florham Bests Wilkes Field Hockey 5-0
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting FDU-Florham saw five different players score on way to a 5-0 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom shutout victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes slipped to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in MAC Freedom games. FDU-Florham improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league contests.
 
FDU-Florham scored its first goal of the game 7:42 into the first quarter when Liz Briles found the back of the net off an assist from Lauren Nawrotzki.
 
The Devils added two more tallies in the second quarter, the first on a strike from Julianna Medina at 26:05 and the second on a penalty stroke from Megan Surgent when an initial shot was played off a Colonels foot in the circle as FDU-Florham led 3-0 at the break.
 
The FDU-Florham advantage continued to grow in the third quarter as Dominique Rodriguez ripped a shot off a penalty corner to push the score to 4-0 just :37 second into the frame.
 
The Devils last score came late in the fourth quarter when a long play in from Megan Surgent was deflected in by Shannon Flatt to give the visitors a five point lead.
 
FDU-Florham outshot Wilkes 11-0 while garnering five penalties corners and holding Wilkes without a penalty corner attempt.
 
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with two saves in net for Wilkes. Emily Prachthauser recorded the shutout victory for FDU-Florham playing three quarters.
 
The Colonels conclude MAC Freedom play Wednesday when they travel to Williamsport, Pa. to face Lycoming College at 7:00 p.m.
