Offensive Push Not Enough As FDU-Florham Gets Victory Over Wilkes Women's Soccer

MADISON, NJ – The Wilkes University women's soccer team's offensive pressure was not enough to pass FDU-Florham as they fell 2-0 to the Devils in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

Wilkes drops to 4-11-2 on the year and 1-5-1 in MAC Freedom play while FDU-Florham goes 14-4-1 in the season, while improving their conference record to 3-3-1.

The game began with Wilkes taking the first two shots of the game, a tempo they would keep at with for the rest of the match. The game would be scoreless until Ashley Dietrich passed to Ashleigh Frankel around 15 yards away from the goal, where she kicked the ball to the top left corner to give the Devils an early 1-0 over the Colonels. The game would go scoreless through the rest of the half, with Wilkes still pushing the pace on the offensive side of the ball.

The second half would start off with the Devils getting another score on the board, as Daniella Conanan would deliver a touch pass to Frankel who'd kick the ball right over the goalie and add to FDU-Florham's lead in the 51st minute, making it 2-0. Wilkes would try to get back into the game throughout the half, as they would outshoot the Devils 16-9. Kailee Harwick (Souderton, PA/Souderton) and Kiana Jedlicka (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) both tried to break the tie as they had shots on goal that were turned away by Erica Blackburn. The Colonels would keep pushing the pace, but the Devils would hold onto the lead to the end of the game.

Hannah Hart (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) would have three shots in the game, with Jedlicka, Harwick, Kayla Lopez (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley), and Cesia Diaz (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) taking two shots apiece. Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished the game with three saves on the night.

With the loss, Wilkes would be eliminated from MAC Freedom postseason competition.

Wilkes will return home to finish their regular season play as they face Arcadia University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field to finish MAC Freedom play.
