Buffalo State Scores Late 1-0 Winner as Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Opens Season
BUFFALO, NY – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team opened its 2022-23 season with a 1-0 loss at Buffalo State Friday afternoon for a non-conference game at the Ice Arena. The Bengals scored with 30 seconds left in the third period to break the scoreless tie.
Wilkes dropped to 0-1-0 while Buffalo State improved to 1-0-0.
The goaltenders were the story, keeping each team's chances clear of the back of the next for the first 59:30 of the game. Junior
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) made 32 saves until Sage Running Rabbit netted the winner late with assists from Emma Ramseier and Lilliana Adimey. Jessica Auge made 28 saves to earn the shutout victory between the pipes for Buffalo State.
Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) led the Colonels with five shots on goal while
Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) and
Emma Bresett (Davidson, NC) added four each in their first games in a Wilkes uniform. Ten different Colonels recorded at least one shot on goal.
Morey won 14-of-31 faceoffs to lead Wilkes while
Sarah Uhall (Greensburg, PA) won 6-of-13 opportunities.
The Colonels went 0-for-6 on the power play with seven total shots on goal. The Bengals were 0-for-3 on their power play opportunities.
Buffalo State led 33-28 in shots on goal for the game and 35-23 in faceoff wins.
The Colonels close the season-opening series with Buffalo State tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. again at the Ice Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
