Marone's Four Goals Pushes Cedar Crest Past Wilkes Field Hockey
ALLENTOWN, PA – Kiley Marone scored all four goals to lead host Cedar Crest College to a 4-2 victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Wednesday night in non-conference action.
Wilkes fell to 2-8 overall on the season while Cedar Crest picked up its third victory of the year standing 3-6.
Marone began her scoring with her first strike 1:15 into the first quarter to give the Falcons a 1-0 early lead.
Jordan Pugh (Plains, PA/James M. Coughlin) responded for the Colonels when she found the back of the cage thanks to an assist from
Morgan Millard (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg Area) at the 6:53 mark of the first frame.
After the teams went to the break tied at one, Marone added her second goal at the 39:52 mark of the third. Wilkes'
Anmarie Lebron (Pennsauken, NJ /Pennsauken) answered back when she scored unassisted three minutes later tying the game at 2-2.
From there Marone gave Cedar Crest the lead back for good scoring the game-winning goal at 56:22 before adding an insurance tally 1:22 later to propel the hosts to the non-league home victory.
Cedar Crest held a 16-12 shot advantage in a back-and-forth affair. The hosts also garnered nine penalty corners to Wilkes' four attempts.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with nine saves in net for the Colonels while Kendall Heiney made seven stops to record the win for Cedar Crest.
Wilkes is back on the field Saturday with a MAC Freedom matchup at Stevens Institute of Technology starting at 1:00 p.m.
