Three First Quarter Goals Pushes Stevens Past Wilkes Field Hockey
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Host Stevens Institute of Technology scored three first quarter goals on way to a 6-0 MAC Freedom victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team on Saturday afternoon at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Wilkes fell to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in MAC Freedom games. Stevens improved to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in league contests.
Stevens wasted little time finding the back of the net notching goals at the 1:49, 4:16 and 7:00 mark of the first quarter. Lynda Farinella capped the three-goal first quarter then added her second of the game early in the second frame to give the Ducks a 4-0 advantage at the half.
Stevens added one goal in the third and fourth quarters on way to the shutout conference home victory.
Stevens held a 24-4 shot advantage throughout while garnering 11 penalty corners to the Colonels' two attempts.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with nine saves in goal for Wilkes. Stevens saw three players in the cage with starter Amanda Murnick earning the win playing the first quarter in goal.
Wilkes returns home Wednesday with a MAC Freedom matchup against Delaware Valley University at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
