EWING, NJ – The Wilkes University wrestling team tested itself against No. 21 The College of New Jersey in the Colonels first dual match of the season at the TCNJ Rec Center Friday night, falling 30-9 to the Lions.

Wilkes went ahead in the match 6-3 following a forfeit victory by Cadden Kucek (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) at 133 pounds following a Lions decision victory at 125 to start the night. TCNJ took the next six bouts, three of them by a decision, one by a major decision, one by a technical fall, and one by fall to lead 27-6.

Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) then scored a 5-4 decision victory for the Colonels over Joe Daddario at 197-pounds to make the score 26-9. The Lions closed the match with a 6-4 decision at 285.

The Colonels lineup faced four wrestlers on the night, Domenic Defrancescantonio at 141, Mike Conklin at 149, Matt Sacco at 157, and Quinn Haddad at 184, that are ranked in the top 10 by the NWCA and d3wrestle.com.

Wilkes returns to the mat tomorrow with grapplers that were not in the lineup tonight competing at the Racich Rumble Tournament hosted by Ursinus College at 9:30 a.m. in Collegeville, Pa.
