Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls Against #5 Nazareth
WILKES-BARRE – The No. 5 Nazareth College women's ice hockey team saw six different players score on way to a 7-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over host Wilkes University Friday night at the Toyota SportsPlex.
Wilkes slipped to 2-3 overall and suffered its first defeat in UCHC play standing 2-1. Nazareth improved to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in league games.
After a scoreless first ten minutes of play, Nazareth began its scoring run netting three consecutive goals at the 9:49 mark on the power play and then again at even strength at 13:40 and 14:26 to take a 3-0 lead.
Wilkes responded :26 seconds after Nazareth's third goal as a shot behind the net from
Gianna Manzi (Aston, PA) banked off the Golden Flyers goalie and into the net to put the Colonels on the board trailing 3-1.
Abigail Davis (Mountain Top, PA) and
Quinn Rodefeld (Blaine, MN/) assisted on the play.
Nazareth then scored three unanswered goals in the second twenty minutes extending the advantage to 6-1 after two periods of play.
The Golden Flyers then added one more tally in the third period on way to the league win.
Nazareth outshot Wilkes 65-13 in the game. The visitors also won 42-of-69 faceoffs.
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) finished with 58 saves in net for the Colonels.
The two teams will finish the season series tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the Toyota SportsPlex.
