Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls to No. 5 Nazareth's Five First Period Goals

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team lost to No. 5 Nazareth College 7-0 as the Golden Flyers scored five first period goals in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game Saturday afternoon at the Toyota SportsPlex.

Wilkes dropped to 2-4-0 overall and to 2-2-0 in the UCHC with the loss. Nationally ranked Nazareth improved to 4-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference with the road win.

Abbey Luth had four points in the first period for the Golden Flyers and she scored one goal and added three assists. Nazareth's goals came at the 10:26, 12:14, 17:16, 18:00, and 18:43 marks of the period.

The two sides went scoreless in the second period with Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) stopping all 16 shots she faced in the 20 minutes.

The Golden Flyers added goals 6:12 and 10:49 into the third period for the 7-0 final.

Ivey Lyden and Abby Flanagan each scored two goals for Nazareth.

Olson made 23 saves in the third period and 53 total for the game. That comes one night after stopping 58 shots.

Malka Paquin earned the shutout in the crease for Nazareth with seven saves.

Nazareth held a 60-7 advantage in shots on goal and 36-21 at the faceoff dot with Luth winning 16 of her 19 chances. Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) won 11 faceoffs for the Colonels and Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) added nine wins.

Wilkes went 0-for-2 on the power play while Nazareth was 1-for-1.

The Colonels remain home to host Morrisville State College on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Toyota SportsPlex.
