WILKES-BARRE – Visiting Morrisville State broke open a tie game entering the final period as the Mustangs scored four unanswered goals in the third frame on way to a 5-1 non-conference victory against the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team Tuesday night at the Toyota SportsPlex.
 
Wilkes slipped to 2-5 overall following the home defeat while Morrisville State posted its first win of the season moving to 1-5-1 overall.
 
After a scoreless first period, Wilkes struck first as Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ/) netted an even strength goals off assists from Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) and Kiera Lacombe (Buckeye, AZ/) :23 into the second period.
 
Five minutes later Morrisville answered back tying the game at one when Kate Mabey launched a shot just inside the blue line that found its way to the back of the net.
 
The Mustangs took the lead seven minutes into the third period as Kendra Johnston stole the puck in the Wilkes defensive zone then fired a shot top shelf just under the crossbar for the goal.
 
Morrisville added an insurance goal 11:15 into the third period when Pippy Pritchard knocked back a rebound for the two-goal advantage. Three minutes later the Mustangs extended the advantage to 4-1 when Alana McDonald scored followed by the final tally at the 13:45 mark to end the Mustangs scoring in the period.
 
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) finished with 40 saves in net for Wilkes. Elizabeth Timby made 12 saves to earn the victory in goal for Morrisville.
 
Wilkes will remain idle until Wednesday, November 30 when the Colonels travel to King's College for a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
