Wilkes Basketball Hosts MAC Freedom Doubleheader against Misericordia Wednesday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams are set to host Misericordia University in a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contests Wednesday at the Marts Center. The women's game will tip at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8:00 p.m

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters the conference matchup against Misericordia in seventh place with a 4-7 record in the MAC Freedom and at 5-12 overall. The Colonels are 3-4 at home this season. Wilkes dropped the matchup in Dallas, Pa. on December 8th by a 65-52 score.

Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) leads Wilkes and ranks 11th in the MAC Freedom with 11.2 points-per-game (ppg). She is tied for third in the league with 2.5 made three pointers per-game and is fifth in the conference with a .347 three-point shooting percentage. Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is second on the team with 8.4 ppg and leads the Colonels with 5.3 rebounds-per-game (rpg).

Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) leads the conference with 4.6 assists-per-game (apg) totaling 69 for the season. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) is second on the Colonels with 5.0 rpg and is third in the MAC Freedom with 1.9 blocks-per-game (bpg) as she has totaled 31 this season. She is third on the team in scoring at 6.8 ppg. Kendra Smith (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) leads the Colonels with 24 steals on the season.

In the Colonels last game on Saturday against Arcadia, Marino led the offense with 15 points while Jordyn Jennings (York, PA/Northeastern) tied her career high with 14 points.

Wilkes is seventh of nine teams in the MAC Freedom with a 53.5 scoring average and are eighth defensively allowing 64.9 ppg.

Misericordia comes into the game in fifth place with a 5-6 record in the conference and the Cougars are 10-10 overall. Misericordia is 4-5 on the road this season.

Alyssa Bondi is fifth in the conference with 15.5 ppg. She is the MAC Freedom leader with 3.0 made threes per-game and is fourth with a .373 three-point shooting percentage. Gianna Delfino ranks sixth with 7.8 rpg and fourth with 1.8 bpg. Morgan Haefele ranks eighth in the league with 3.1 apg.

Misericordia is fourth in the MAC Freedom with 59.5 ppg and ranks fifth allowing 61.0 ppg.

The Cougars lead the series 21-6 dating back to the 2008-2009 season and have won 11 of the past 12 meetings.

Men's Preview:
Wilkes enters in seventh place with a 4-7 record in the MAC Freedom and at 6-12 overall. The Colonels are 1-5 at home this season. The Cougars won 90-71 in Dallas, Pa. on December 8th.
 
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was named the MAC Freedom Player of the Week after averaging 20.0 points and 14.0 rebounds over three contests last week. The sophomore is the MAC Freedom leader with 16.5 ppg and his 8.0 rpg rank fifth in the league. Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) is fourth in the league in scoring at 14.9 ppg. He is also tenth with 6.4 rpg. Marshall is tied for third in the conference with 3.9 apg, while Fisher is tied for fourth in the league with 1.7 bpg and is tied for seventh with 1.4 steals-per-game.
 
Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) is also scoring in double figures for the Colonels at 10.9 ppg. Davidheiser leads the Colonels with 30 made three pointers and is second in the league with a .448 three-point shooting percentage while sitting tied for seventh with 1.9 made threes per-game.
 
Donovan Breeding (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) scored eight points on Senior Day against Arcadia including two makes from behind the arc.
 
Wilkes is fifth in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 73.8 ppg while ranking fifth in scoring defense at 72.5 ppg.

Misericordia comes in with a 5-6 MAC Freedom record and in sixth place. The Cougars are 7-13 overall and 5-4 on the road this season.

Elijah Rosenthal leads the Cougars with 14.0 ppg which ranks seventh in the conference. Nate Kreitzer is tenth with 13.0 ppg and Kevin Lazdowsky (11.2) and Nick Hornung (10.1) also average in double figures. Lazdowsky is seventh with 6.9 rpg and leads the league with a .460 three-point shooting percentage. Hornung leads the conference with a .604 field-goal shooting percentage. Kreitzer is second with 4.3 apg and tied for fourth with 2.1 made threes per-game.

Misericordia leads the MAC Freedom with 77.6 ppg and is ninth allowing 81.0 ppg.

The Cougars hold a slight 14-13 edge in the series dating back to the 2008-2009 season with the two sides each winning five of the last 10 meetings.
