Wilkes Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season with 6-3 Victory Over Scranton
KINGSTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team opened its 2022 spring season in fine fashion posting a 6-3 dual match victory over the University of Scranton at the TK Academy on Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes improved to 1-0 after its season opening win while Scranton fell to 0-3 on the season.
The Colonels jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from the No. 2 team of
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Rodniel Senson (Houston, TX/William B. Travis) 8-2 and No. 3 pair of
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) 8-5.
Wilkes then sealed the match in singles competition with wins in four of six flights.
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) scored a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2. Toussaint went 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) finished his No. 5 match 6-4, 6-1 and Frey sealed the non-conference win with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6.
The Colonels are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Ithaca College for a dual match starting at 2:00 p.m.
