Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Drops Second Straight at Utica
UTICA, N.Y. – The Wilkes University Colonels women's ice hockey squad traveled to face the Utica Pioneers in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) battle Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels (3-16, 3-14 UCHC) allowed seven first period goals to the Pioneers (20-3, 17-1), receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com national poll, and fell 12-2.
The Colonels managed to strike first in the game, with
Emma Guzdek (Amherst, NY) being assisted by
Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) and
Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ) at 3:17 in the first. The Navy and Gold bookended the 12 Utica goals with one in the third period at 16:27 with
Abby Davis (Mountain Top, PA) getting help from
Abby Miller (Webster, NY) for the first goal of her Navy and Gold career.
Senior
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) recorded 55 saves, while Utica outshot Wilkes 67-10. The Colonels return to Wilkes-Barre for a road matchup at King's on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., in a rematch of a 4-1 victory at the Toyota SportsPlex for the Navy and Gold on 1/25/22.
