Wilkes Men's Basketball Wraps Regular Season with Loss at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Wilkes University Colonels men's basketball team concluded regular season play in the 2021-22 season Saturday afternoon with a trip to face Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival Stevens Ducks.

The Colonels (8-16, 5-11 MACF) hung around early against the Ducks (13-8, 12-4), but Stevens kept the Colonels at arm's length on their way to a 70-56 victory to wrap up regular season play with a regular season sweep of the Navy and Gold.

The Colonels hung around for the first seven minutes at 8-8, before an 11-0 Ducks run pushed them ahead 19-8.  The Ducks would lead by as much as 25-11 and held onto their lead heading into the locker room 31-22.  After shaving the lead down to 33-27 in the starting minutes of the second half, the Ducks would build up their lead to 50-37 halfway through the second half and never looked back.

Senior Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) finished the day with 21 points, while Alec DiPietrantonio finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, the lone double-double for either squad.  The two teams will meet once again in the first round of the MAC Freedom playoffs on Wednesday, with Wilkes as the seven seed traveling to Stevens once more to face the second-seeded Ducks at 8:00 p.m. in Hoboken, N.J.
