10-1 Marywood Run Pushes Pacers Past Wilkes Women's Lacrosse

EDWARDSVILLE, PA. – The Wilkes University Colonels hosted the Marywood Pacers in a women's lacrosse matchup at a drenched Schmidt Stadium Tuesday evening.

The Colonels (0-2) rattled off five straight goals to start the game, but the Pacers (1-0) roared back with eight in a row on their way to a 12-11 victory.

The seniors accounted for the first five goals.  Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) started the scoring at 12:04, before Savannah Bauman (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) found the back of the net at 11:33 and at 3:28 to put the Colonels up three after being a player up.  Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) snuck in one last one off of a fast break with just 13 seconds left in the first period, before Lerch tacked on her second at 13:42 in the second.

The Pacers roared to life, scoring eight straight goals from 12:53 in the second period to 6:51 left in the third frame.  Bauman stopped the bleeding at 4:15 to keep the Colonels in the game down 8-6, but the Pacers found an easy goal with just six seconds left in the third and another at 12:41 in the fourth to give themselves a 10-6 edge and a 10-1 run.  The Colonels outscored the Pacers 5-2 the rest of the way, with sophomore Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) starting the rally at 11:35, before senior Laura Bayzick (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) struck at 10:28 with help from Lerch.  Fulling was then assisted by Lerch twice at 8:35 and 7:28 respectively to close within one.  The Pacers netted the game-winner at 6:09.  Bauman put the Colonels within striking distance of a tie at 1:44, but Marywood finished the game by playing keepaway after a winning draw control.

Bauman led the Colonels with her second-straight four goal game, while Fulling set her career-high with a hat trick on the evening.  Lerch recorded a time-high three assists, five points, five ground balls, five draw controls, and four caused turnovers.  Emma Soloman had four points and a game-high seven ground ball for the victorious Pacers.

Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) finished with nine saves in goal for the Colonels playing all sixty minutes. Emily Dyminski recorded the win for Marywood making 12 saves.

The Colonels continue to look for their first win of the 2022 season as they travel to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to face Maritime College.  The Colonels lead the live stats era series 4-2, with Maritime taking a decisive 14-7 victory over the Navy and Gold at Schmidt Stadium back in 2020.
