Wilkes Men's Tennis Pushes Past Lebanon Valley 5-4
KINGSTON – The Wilkes University men's tennis team pushed through for a 5-4 non-conference victory over Lebanon Valley College Saturday afternoon at the TK Academy.
With the win Wilke moved its overall record to 2-1 while Lebanon Valley suffered its first defeat of the 2022 season standing 4-1.
Wilkes jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from No. 1 pair
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) 8-4 and No. 2 pair
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Nick Putney (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) 8-4.
Gibson then scored a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles followed by a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory by Putney at No. 4.
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) clinched the match for the Colonels with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Wilkes begins its spring break with a non-league match Saturday at Washington College (Maryland) at 9:00 a.m. before a neutral site match against Stevenson at 1:00 p.m.
