Wilkes Men's Tennis Splits Pair of Matches on Spring Break Trip
CHESTERTOWN, MD – The Wilkes University men's tennis team split a pair of matches on its spring break trip to Maryland on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels fell 9-0 against the host Washington College before posting a 6-3 victory over Stevenson University later in the day.
Wilkes moves to 3-2 overall on the season following the split.
Wilkes raced out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the duo of
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) scored an 8-1 win at No. 1 followed by
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and
Connor Frey's (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) thrilling 8-7 win at No. 3.
Gibson and Rathe both recorded wins in singles play at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively to move the Colonels to within one of clinching. Frey then clinched the match at No. 6 singles with an 8-3 victory.
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) was the final Wilkes winner at No. 5 singles.
The Colonels have a quick turnaround as they travel back from the south to host Dickinson College Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at TK Academy.
