Wilkes Women's Tennis Posts 5-4 Victory Over Lebanon Valley
KINGSTON – Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, the Wilkes University women's tennis team rallied to take four of six singles flights on way to a 5-4 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at the TK Academy.
Wilkes improved to 2-1 on the season while Lebanon Valley evened its overall record at 3-3.
The Colonels lone win in doubles was No. 2 pair
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) who scored an 8-2 victory for Wilkes' first team points.
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) began the comeback with a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles followed by wins from
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4, and Cieri (6-1, 6-2) at No. 5.
Yakhnis then clinched the match with a thrilling 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 win at No.1 to seal the victory for Wilkes.
Wilkes begins its spring break with a non-league match Saturday at Washington College (Maryland) at 9:00 a.m. before a neutral site match against Stevenson at 1:00 p.m.
