Ormsby's Career Day Powers Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Past Manhattanville 15-7

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Wilkes University senior Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) scored a career-high five goals and added one assist to lead the visiting Colonels to a 15-7 non-conference victory at Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 4-3 overall following their third road victory this season. Manhanttanville dropped to 1-4 on the year following the home defeat.

The Valiants scored the game's first goal before Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland)  tied the game at the 13:10 mark of the first quarter thanks to an assist from Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh).

Manhattanville scored two straight goals to take a 3-1 lead before Ormsby found the back of the net for his first of the afternoon with 9:31 left to play in the opening frame. The senior added his second six minutes later tying the game at three before a Valiant goal with just over two minutes remaining in the first put the hosts up 4-3 after one.

Ormsby completed the hat trick early in the second quarter tying the game for the second time before Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) gave the Colonels their first lead with a strike at 9:11. Wilkes continued to pour it on in the second quarter scoring two more unanswered goals (Ormsby's fourth and Myers second) to take a 7-4 lead with 7:46 left until the break.

After a Manhattanville goal stopped the Wilkes run, Ormsby cashed in on his fifth goal of the game to put the Colonels ahead 8-5 with just over two minutes left in the second where the Colonel advantage would stand at the half.

The offense continued to power through into the third quarter as Wilkes outscored the Valiants 5-0 in the frame to take a commanding 13-5 advantage after three. Palladino, Tyler Knappenberger (Orefield, PA/Parkland) (3x) and Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) scored the goals for Wilkes in the deciding stanza.

Anthony DelDuca (Westchester, NY/Westlake) and Palladino scored the final two goals for the Colonels in the fourth as the lead never got below seven over the final 15 minutes of play.

Ormsby's five goals ranked fourth in program history in a single game. Palladino was equally impressive finishing with six points on two goals and four assists.

Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) and Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) each saw time in net for Wilkes as Lasher finished with 13 saves and Cox one stop.

Wilkes held a 44-39 shot advantage while winning 10-of-25 face-offs.

Wilkes is back in action Wednesday for a road non-conference game at Lebanon Valley College Wednesday starting at 4:00 p.m. in Annville, Pa.
