Gwynedd Mercy Defeats Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 21-7

GWYNEDD MERCY, PA – The visiting Wilkes University women's lacrosse team lost 21-7 at Gwynedd Mercy University in a non-conference tilt Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex.

Wilkes fell to 0-4 this season with the loss while Gwynedd Mercy improved its record to 4-1 overall.

The Griffins scored the game's first 10 goals including all nine in the first quarter. Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) put Wilkes on the scoreboard with 12:56 left in the second quarter and would follow up with her second goal 3:23 later off an assist from Savannah Bauman (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley). Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) would score with another assist coming from Bauman and then Bauman scored on a free position shot as the Colonels completed a 4-2 run with 6:29 left until halftime.

Gwynedd Mercy would score the next nine goals spanning from the second quarter into the fourth to take a 21-4 lead before the Colonels closed with the final three tallies. Devitt completed her hat trick, Sydney Bernardi (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored her first career goal on a free position shot, and Pedana scored off Bauman's third assist of the night.

Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) made eight saves for the Colonels and led the team with four ground balls.

Damali Teagle led the Griffins with seven points on five goals and two assists while Kristin Varilla added four goals. Reilly Owens made 10 saves in the victory.

Wilkes went 11-for-13 on clears in the game and were even with Gwynedd Mercy as each team had 14 ground balls. The Griffins held a 33-19 advantage in shots.

The Colonels will remain on the road as they travel to face Wilson College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
