Wilkes Men's Tennis Wins 5-4 Thriller Over Dickinson
KINGSTON – With the match tied at four, Wilkes University first year
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) clinched the win in three sets as the host Colonels posted a thrilling 5-4 win over Dickinson College Sunday afternoon.
With the win Wilkes moved to 4-2 overall while Dickinson suffered its first loss of the season standing 1-1 on the year.
Wilkes led 2-1 after doubles play thanks to wins from No. 1 pair
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) 8-6 and No. 3 duo
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and Frey 8-7.
Gibson took his No. 1 singles flight in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to move the Colonels closer to the win. After Dickinson took singles wins at No. 2, 3 and 4,
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) tied the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles setting up the final No. 6 singles match for the clinch.
Frey then won 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 to seal the non-conference home victory for the Colonels.
Wilkes will remain idle until Saturday, March 26 when the Colonels travel to Allentown, Pa. for a match at Muhlenberg College starting at 2:00 p.m.
