12-0 Run Pushes Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Past Receiving Votes Ferrum in Blue Ridge Classic
FERRUM, VA. – The Wilkes University Colonels men's lacrosse program wrapped up the Blue Ridge Classic Sunday afternoon with a tilt against host Ferrum Panthers.
The Colonels (3-2) put together their third straight victory with an 18-4 performance against the Panthers (2-3), receiving votes in the latest national men's lacrosse poll.
Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) started the scoring with
Anthony DelDuca (Westchester, NY/Westlake) assisting at 10:46. Ferrum replied a minute later, but
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) found an unassisted goal at 1:07 to send the Colonels into the second frame with a 2-1 lead. The Colonels would bury the Panthers in the second quarter and never look back. Myers started with the first of six Navy and Gold tallies in the period at 14:32. The Panthers replied at 12:26 but the Colonels would respond with their first of 12 unanswered goals with
Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) getting help from Palladino at 9:48. DelDuca would continue his strong play on the weekend with a goal at 8:41. Myers and Palladino would tack on unassisted goals at 6:42 and 5:01, before DelDuca wrapped the second quarter scoring with a pass from Palladino at 3:38.
Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) started the Colonels off strong in the third with back-to-back goals at 12:43 and 11:22, the latter assisted by Palladino. Palladino tacked on another tally at 9:02 with help from
Luke Weakland (Sparks, MD/Hereford), before DelDuca found himself completing a second-straight hat trick at 8:34 with help from
Luke Wawrzynek (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area).
Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) would find the last goal from either team in the frame at 7:53 to send the Colonels into the fourth up 13-2.
Tyler Knappenberger (Orefield, PA/Parkland) got help from
Jacob Kudysch (Stratford, CT/Frank Scott Bunnell) to start the fourth period with a 8:14 shot, before Ormsby from DelDuca wrapped up the run at 6:16 and gave Ormsby a hat trick. Ferrum would net a man up goal before Knappenberger got help from DelDuca at 4:51.
Gavin Scofield (Stratford, CT/Stratford) from Weakland at 3:00 and Knappenberger from Weakland at 1:15 wrapped up the scoring and a Knappenberger hat trick.
Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) and
Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) split time in goal, allowing two goals each and both recording six saves. Four Colonels recorded hat tricks, with Palladino and DelDuca finishing for the team lead with six points each.
Henry O'Connor (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) had a productive afternoon as well, winning 10 of 16 faceoffs and recording six ground balls to lead the Colonels.
The Colonels continue their Virginia swing Tuesday as they travel to Bridgewater, Va. to face Bridgewater at 4:00 p.m. The Colonels are 0-2 against Bridgewater, and lost the last matchup in 2019 12-8 at Bridgewater.
