Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Wraps Up Virginia Swing with Loss at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Wilkes University Colonels looked to carry their momentum from their three-game winning streak to the Bridgewater Eagles Tuesday afternoon as they continued their non-conference road slate..

The Colonels (3-3) wrapped up their Virginia trip with a 17-10 loss against the Eagles (4-2) that saw the Eagles control most of the game.

The Eagles and Colonels opened the game by each scoring two goals on the other.  The Eagles punched home the first two points at 13:58 and 12:7, while Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) found help from Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) at 11:35, then Luke Weakland (Sparks, MD/Hereford) tied it up at two-all at 10:02.  The Eagles would go on a 4-0 run to wrap up the quarter.

Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) from Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) would help the Colonels stick within 6-3 at the start of the second frame, but the Eagles would put together another 4-0 run to put the Navy and Gold firmly behind in the affair.  Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) would put home back-to-back goals at 2:37 and 1:08 to cut the lead to 10-5 towards the end of the second quarter, but a 3-0 Eagle run to end the second and start the third effectively put the game out of reach for the Colonels.

Palladino would get an assist from Myers with 5:13 left in the third, while Anthony DelDuca (Westchester, NY/Westlake) scored back-to-back goals with one with :19 left in the third and one at 10:43 in the fourth with help from Myers on the fourth period point.  Myers would complete his hat trick with help from Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel) at 7:18, and then Weakland would wrap the scoring for both squads at 4:15 left in the fourth.

The Eagles won the faceoff battle 22-8.  Myers would finish with a game-high five points, while Kain Turner (Telford, PA/Souderton Area) led the Colonels with five ground balls.  Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) recorded 26 saves in defeat, a career high and program single-game record for the senior as he finished the day with a .605 save percentage.

The Colonels take 11 days off before continuing their non-conference road swing with a trip up to Purchase, N.Y. on March 19.  The Navy and Gold play at Manhattanville at 1:00 p.m. that Saturday in a live stats era series the Valiants lead 4-0 after a 10-9 victory over the Colonels back in 2019.
