Wilkes Men's Tennis Edges Oneonta 5-4
KINGSTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team used some dramatics in singles play to close out a 5-4 non-conference victory over visiting SUNY Oneonta Sunday afternoon at TK Academy.
Wilkes improved to 6-5 overall in dual matches on the season following the home win while Oneonta dropped to 5-6 on the year.
With the match tied at 4-4,
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) came back from down 1-0 after the first set tp win the second set 7-6 and 10-8 in the decider to clinch the match for the Colonels.
Wilkes led 2-1 after doubles play thanks to wins from
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and Toussaint at No. 1 (8-6) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and
Rodniel Senson (Houston, TX/William B. Travis) (8-6) at No. 3.
Rathe and
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) both won their No. 5 and 6 singles matches respectively in straight sets to setup the deciding winner for Wilkes and Toussaint's heroics.
The Colonels return to MAC Freedom play Wednesday hosting Lycoming College at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
