9-1 Lycoming Run Dooms Wilkes Men's Lacrosse in Second Half
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team entered the second half of their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom slate Wednesday evening against the Lycoming Warriors.
The Colonels (4-10, 0-5 MACF) led 7-6 with 8:15 to go in the second quarter, but the Warriors (7-7, 3-2) roared past the Navy and Gold with a 9-1 run to take home a 15-9 victory.
The teams traded goals throughout the first period, with
Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) from
Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) kicking off the scoring at 14:00. Palladino from Ormsby followed a Lycoming goal at 11:05 to put the Colonels ahead once more.
Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) got help from Ormsby at 7:06 after another Warrior goal to take a 3-2 lead. Once Lycoming tied up the game once more, Ormsby got a man-up goal at 5:32 followed by a Palladino goal from
Tyler Knappenberger (Orefield, PA/Parkland) at 3:55 to take a 5-3 lead. The Warriors would score two goals to close the period tied at five.
The Warriors would take a 6-5 lead early in the second, but goals from
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) at 9:51 and
Hunter Riley (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa Central) at 8:15 would give the Colonels a 7-6 tally. The Warriors would take over the remaining minutes of the first half and the entire second, outscoring the Colonels 8-1. Myers scored the lone Colonel tally at 7:36.
Bradley Anacreon (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) and
Henry O'Connor (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) anchored a tough Colonel faceoff game, combining for 21 faceoff wins out of 27 attempts. Anacreon recorded 10 ground balls and 17 faceoff victories, both career highs, while Ormsby led the team with four points.
Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) and
Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) combined for 10 saves in the loss, while Ben Franco had 11 saves in the Lycoming victory.
The Colonels hit the road for a matchup with the Misericordia Cougars at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday in Dallas, Pa. The two teams met twice last season, with the Cougars taking both victories.
