4-1 Second Quarter Pushes FDU-Florham Past Wilkes Men's Lacrosse
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels hosted the FDU-Florham Devils at Schmidt Stadium Saturday afternoon for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom showdown.
A 4-1 run in the second period put the Colonels (4-7, 0-2 MACF) in a hole they couldn't dig out of as they lose 11-9 to the Devils (3-5, 1-0).
The Devils struck first at 9:04 in the first, before the Colonels managed a 2-1 lead.
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) from
Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) at 8:03 and
Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) from Weaver at 6:52 put the Colonels up, but a goal at 2:08 from FDU-Florham sent the two teams into the second period tied at 2-2. The Devils struck twice to make it 4-1 before
Tyler Knappenberger (Orefield, PA/Parkland) got help from
Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) at 9:02 to make it a 4-2 game. FDU-Florham struck twice and clamped down on the Colonels offense to go into the half up 6-3.
Myers struck twice at 11:37 and 10:56 with help from Weaver and Palladino respectively to put the Colonels down just 6-5. The goal at 10:56 was his 100th career point as a Colonel. Ormsby would strike at 7:20 with an assist from Weaver before FDU-Florham rattled off three straight goals to go up 10-6. Ormsby would take advantage of a Devil penalty with an assist from Knappenberer at the :37 mark of the third period to head into the fourth down 10-7. Myers would get a helping hand from Palladino at 12:05 in the fourth to put the Colonels within two, but a Devils goal at 10:58 put the game out of reach for the Colonels.
Dillon Kadis (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic) wrapped up the scoring at 3:15 to finalize the tally at 11-9 in FDU-Florham's favor.
Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) recorded 11 saves in the loss. The Devils had six separate goal scorers while the Colonels had four, with Myers posting four goals and Ormsby three.
The Colonels continue their MAC Freedom slate with a trip out to Glenside, Pa. to face the Arcadia Knights on Wednesday. First faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in a rematch of a 2021 affair at Schmidt Stadium Arcadia won 16-6.
