Wilkes Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten After 5-4 Victory at Misericordia
DALLAS, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team handed host Misericordia University its first defeat of the season posting a 5-4 MAC Freedom win over the Cougars Wednesday afternoon.
Wilkes improved to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in MAC Freedom play while Misericordia dropped to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in league matches.
The Colonels opened with a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins at the No. 2 and 3 pairs.
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) and
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) recorded an 8-6 victory at No. 2 before
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Kaitlyn O'Neil (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) won 8-2 at No. 3.
The Cougars took No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to climb back into the match.
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) took her No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-2 before a win at No. 5 from Cieri 6-0, 6-0 tied the match at 4-4.
Greenman then clinched the match for Wilkes taking her No. 5 singles match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
The Colonels return home Saturday hosting DeSales University for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom match at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
