Home Runs Fuel Wilkes Baseball Victory against Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA – The Wilkes University baseball squad traveled to open their three-game series against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Delaware Valley Aggies Friday afternoon.

The Colonels (18-15, 5-11 MACF) sent two past the outfield fences to help take a 5-4 victory over the Aggies (13-17, 3-13).

The Aggies got after JT Hibschman (Millville, NJ/Millville) early, a sacrifice grounder in the first followed by a deep double to left field in the second giving them an early 3-0 lead.  Hibschman would settle down afterwards, holding the Aggies to one more run in the fourth off of a single to center while the Colonels offense went to work.  Dominick Bayo (Swoyersville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) started the scoring with a two-run double in the third inning to put the Colonels within 3-2.

The first of the home runs came in the fourth with Nick Pronti (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) hitting a ball out of the ballpark to tie the game at three-all.  The Aggies would retake the lead in the bottom of the frame, but Max Alessi (Wallenpaupack, PA/Wallenpaupack) would finish off the scoring with a two-run home run to left in the sixth inning for the final total.  Sawyer Kemp (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) would earn the save with a flawless inning and a third of pitching, with no hits and three strikeouts to clamp down on the Aggies.

Hibschman earned the victory and pitched 7.2 innings, while Michael Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) hit three for five with a pair of stolen bases on the afternoon.

The Colonels will wrap up their three-game series against the Aggies tomorrow at Bruggeworth Field.  First pitch is scheduled for noon for the first of two seven-inning games.
