Wilkes Women's Tennis Opens MAC Freedom Play with Win at King's
KINGSTON, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team opened MAC Freedom play by posting a 7-2 victory over cross-town rival King's College Tuesday afternoon at the Kirby Park courts.
Wilkes improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in league matches while King's slipped to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in conference contests.
The Colonels swept doubles play allowing just three total points over the three pairs matches. Wilkes then took four of six flights in singles competition to seal the road win.
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) took their No. 1 doubles match 8-1 followed by
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) winning 8-0 at No. 2.
Abby Bielecki (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) and
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) closed out doubles play with an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
Yakhnis scored a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win at No. 2 to open singles play. Cieri and Amerise finished off their singles matches at No. 3 and 4 in straight sets winning 6-0, 6-1 respectively.
Sydney Farmer (Lacey Township, NJ/Lacey Township) rounded out the singles wins at No. 6 by scores of 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.
Wilkes is back in action Saturday when the Colonels travel to Hoboken, N.J. for a MAC Freedom matchup against Stevens Institute of Technology starting at 11:00 a.m.
