Wilkes Field Hockey Fall at Alvernia
READING, PA – Host Alvernia University raced out to a 4-0 halftime lead then added six more goals in the second half on way to a 10-0 non-conference victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team on Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes fell to 1-3 overall following the road defeat while Alvernia improved its overall record to 3-1 on the year.
Alvernia scored once in the opening stanza before netting three unanswered goals over the next 15 minutes of play to take a four-goal advantage to the break.
Five more goals in the third followed by one goal in the final quarter ended the scoring tear for the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia held a commanding 38-10 shot advantage including 29 on goal. The Golden Wolves also garnered 15 penalty corners to Wilkes' one attempt.
Lizzie Carter (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) finished with 17 saves playing in goal for three quarters for Wilkes.
Wilkes opens MAC Freedom play next Saturday when the Colonels travel to cross-town rival King's College for a contest scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
