Wilkes Field Hockey Unable to Hold Onto Halftime Lead in 2-1 MAC Freedom Loss at King's
WILKES-BARRE – Despite holding a 1-0 lead at the half, the Wilkes University field hockey team was unable to keep the advantage throughout the final 30 minutes of play falling 2-1 at cross-town rival King's College in both teams MAC Freedom opener Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
Wilkes dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league games while King's improved to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference contests following the home victory.
Lauren Shiplett (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) notched her second goal of the season unassisted with two seconds left in the first half to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead at the break.
Sarah Zaleppa then tied the game five minutes into the third quarter and just a 1:30 later Ali Tedlik recorded the game-winner finding the back of the cage unassisted for the Monarchs.
King's held a 15-7 shot advantage while garnering 10 penalty corners to Wilkes' three attempts.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) played all 60 minutes in net for Wilkes recording five saves.
Wilkes returns home Wednesday hosting Neumann University for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Schmidt Stadium.
