Wilkes Women's Soccer Unable to Generate Offense Against Widener
CHESTER, PA – Wilkes University women's soccer team travels to Widener and is unable to keep up with the Pride as they fall 3-0.
The Colonels drop to 2-2, while Widener improves to 2-0-2.
The first half saw Wilkes stay on the defensive side of the game, as the Colonels were unable to produce one shot while Widener took 11 in the half. Lauren Sweeney (West Chester, PA/West Chester Rustin) was busy, producing eight saves during that half, her career-high save total for a game. The Colonels could only hold the barrage from Widener for so long, as the Pride finally found the back of the goal in the 42nd minute.
The second half saw Wilkes try to keep up with Widener, outshooting them 6-5 in the half. Holly Feese (State College, PA/State College Area), Olivia Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Allentown), and Cesia Diaz (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) all took shots on goals to help keep the Colonels in the game, though none passed the Pride's goalkeeper. Widener extended their lead with two goals in the last five minutes of the game, keeping the Colonels away from any comeback.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) played the second half in goal for the Colonels, allowing two late tallies for the Pride with Wilkes pushing forward to find the tying goal. She finished with two saves.
Wilkes will return to action on Wednesday as they head to Susquehanna for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
