Wilkes Women's Tennis Drops Fall Opener to Hartwick
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis opened their fall season at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts Wednesday evening dropping the match to visiting Hartwick College 7-2.
Wilkes is now 0-1 on the season as Hartwick remained unbeaten, moving to 4-0 overall.
The Colonels took one of the three doubles matches to open the match.
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) combined at No. 1 doubles to win 8-6 over Damita Bollers and Jade Killikelly to even the match at 1-1 after the Hawks won 8-5 at No. 2. Hartwick took the 2-1 lead with a tightly contested 8-7 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Hawks then clinched the match by taking five of the six singles matches. Amerise was the Colonels winner at the No. 2 position as the sophomore won 6-1, 7-6 (6-3) over Phoebe Olson.
The Colonels are back in action Saturday and Sunday at the Kirby Park and Ralston Athletic Complex Courts to compete at the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championship.
