Wilkes Women's Soccer Hangs Tough at No. 3 Messiah
GRANTHAM, PA – The Wilkes University women's soccer team traveled to third ranked Messiah University falling 1-0 to the Falcons in a non-conference match Saturday night at Shoemaker Field.
Wilkes falls to 2-4 overall and drops its third straight match while Messiah improves to 5-0-1 on the season.
Brianna Seip scored the lone goal in the game for the Falcons connecting on a rebound off an initial shot that hit the left goal post only to deposit the second attempt into the back of the Wilkes net at the 15:46 mark of the first half.
Wilkes kept things close throughout the final 45 minutes of play putting pressure on the Messiah backline in the final 10 minutes looking for the equalizer.
Messiah held a 22-1 shot advantage while garnering seven corner kicks.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) played all 90 minutes in net for the Colonels finishing with seven saves.
Wilkes returns home Tuesday when the Colonels host local rival the University of Scranton at 7:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field.
