Wilkes Men's Soccer Goes to 1-1 Draw with Haverford

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's soccer team goes to a draw in a competitive match with Haverford College on Saturday afternoon at Bruggerworth Field.

Both Wilkes and Haverford go 1-0-1 on the season.

The Colonels and the Fords went back and forth in the first half, with both teams putting the pressure on each other, as Wilkes edged Haverford in shots 8-6. Both defensive units held firm through the first half, with Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) getting two saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the second half.

The Colonels broke the drought in the 63rd minute as Herbert Ramirez (Highstown, NJ/Highstown) received a free kick pass from Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. Haverford tied the game up from a deflected pass that was shot right to the bottom corner of the net. Tone kept the game scoreless as he saved a potential tie breaking shot not even a minute later.

Both teams would try to capitalize on the momentum, as six shots were made between both teams in the final 14 minutes of the game, with Ramirez just grazing the goalpost in the 88th minute, to keep the game at 1-1.

The Colonels outshoot the Fords 19-12 on the day. Tone finished the game with four saves.

Wilkes will go on the road as they play Juniata College on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
