Wilkes Men's Soccer Fall Short to Juniata 

HUNTINGTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's soccer team traveled to Juniata as the Colonels fell to the Eagles 1-0 in a tough matchup on Wednesday night.  

Wilkes drops to 1-1-1 on the season, while Juniata improves to 3-1-0.  

The Colonels got off to a slow start on offense as they were outshot in the first half 9-4 by Juniata. The Eagles took the lead at the 28th minute with a pass from the back of the field to a shot that sailed across the bottom of the net. The pressure wouldn't let up, as Juniata almost took a corner kick that got deflected and hit the back of the net, but an offsides call saved the Colonels.  

The second half saw the Colonels take steps to tie the game, as they took nine shots in the second half compared to six from the Eagles. Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) put in an effort to hold the Juniata lead to only one, as he recorded five saves, including a shot in the 73rd minute from the top of the circle. Will Wagstaff (Allentown, PA/Parkland) almost capitalized in the 83rd minute, but the shot was saved. Matthew Meagher (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) attempted a long shot in the 87th minute that was tipped by the goalkeeper near the top of the net.  

Wagstaff put four shots up in the game, while Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) and Conner Maciejczyk (Allamunchy, NJ/Hackettstown) both took two shots each.  

Wilkes returns to action this Saturday as they head to face Drew University at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference competition.
