Two Scores Pushes Wilkes Women's Soccer Over William Paterson
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's soccer team jumps on two quick scores in the second half as the Colonels earn a 2-0 victory over William Paterson University on a rainy Tuesday night at Bruggerworth field.
Wilkes goes to 2-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 0-2-1.
The first half saw a defensive holdout between the two teams, as Wilkes and William Paterson held each other scoreless in the first half. The Colonels could not capitalize on their shots, outshooting the Pioneers 9-0 with no lead to show for it.
Kiana Jedlicka (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) decided to start the second half in a pressure mode, as she capitalized on a pass down the field from Kayla Lopez (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and struck the top left of the goal in the 47th minute to break the tie and give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.
In the 50th minute, Lopez joined the quick scoring barrage as she took a pass far right from Erica Feese (State College, PA/State College Area) and went down the line to hit the top left of the goal, extending Wilkes lead 2-0.
The rest of the second half saw the defense keep a strong hold on William Paterson as Wilkes only allowed the Pioneers to take one shot the entire game, while the Colonels took 15 shots.
The Colonels will return to action on Sunday as they head to Widener University in non-conference competition.
