Kaczorowski's Overtime Goal Lifts Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Over Arcadia
 
COLMAR, PA – Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) was able to score off a breakaway in overtime to lift the Wilkes women's ice hockey team 2-1 over the Arcadia University Knights in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play on Friday night.
 
Wilkes moves to 4-12-1 overall and 4-10-1 in the UCHC. Arcadia falls to 8-8-2 overall and 4-7-2 in conference play.
 
The Colonels were able to start a lead against Arcadia in the first period, ending the first 20 minutes of the game up 1-0 with a goal from Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ/). Patterson led Wilkes in shots in the first period with three, and was followed by Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ), Kaczorowski, Emma Guzdek (Amherst, NY/), Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/), and Abby Miller (Webster, NY/) who each had two. Goaltender Emma Swansburg (Shelburne, NS) was able to keep the Knights from the net making 13 saves in the first period.
 
Arcadia had 19 shots in the first period and goaltender Jo Coates had three saves in the first 20.
 
The second period was scoreless, as neither team was able to net one. Arcadia had a powerplay opportunity, but they were unable to capitalize on it. Kaczorowski led the Colonels in shots in the second period with four. She was followed by Barcless who had two. Swansberg added seven more saves in the period.
 
The Knights had 14 shots in the second period and Coates added five saves in the second period.
 
Wilkes almost got away, but Arcadia was able to find the net with 16 seconds left in the third period. Regulation time ended with a score of 1-1. Morey and Patterson each had two shots for Wilkes in the third period. Swansburg added 17 saves in the period.
 
Arcadia had 25 shots in the third period and Coates had five saves in the period.
 
2:29 minutes into overtime, Kaczorowski found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and was able to put one away, securing Wilkes' 2-1 win over Arcadia.
 
Kaczorowski led the team in shots, having seven in the game. She was followed by Morey and Patterson who each had five, and Barcless who had four.
 
Swansburg tallied 44 total saves for the Colonels, giving her a save percentage of 97.8%. It was a season high saves for Swansburg as she earned her first career NCAA victory. Coates had 13 total saves with a save percentage of 86.7%.
 
Wilkes won 15 of 40 faceoffs, with Morey winning eight, Kaczorowski winning four, and Elizabeth Spoon (Arlington, TX) winning three. Arcadia won 25 of 40 faceoffs.
 
The Colonels had a total of 34 shots, with 15 being on goal. The Knights had a total of 66 shots with 45 on goal. Wilkes was 0-2 on powerplays and Arcadia was 0-3.
 
The Wilkes women's ice hockey team returns to action tomorrow when they return to Colmar, Pa. at 3:30 p.m. where they look to sweep the weekend series against Arcadia.
