Wilkes Field Hockey Drops Tough 1-0 Decision to Elizabethtown
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Elizabethtown College scored the lone goal of the game early in the first quarter and held on to a 1-0 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Saturday on Senior Night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes fell to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in Landmark play. Elizabethtown improved to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in conference contests.
Elizabethtown scored the only goal of the game just 2:52 into the first quarter when Drew Bridges worked her way around a Colonel defender in front of the cage and buried a shot to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.
Wilkes had several opportunities over the final three minutes of the fourth quarter, including five consecutive penalty corners, but were unable to muster the game-tying tally.
Elizabethtown held a 14-8 shot advantage while garnering 15 penalty corners to Wilkes' eight attempts.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with six saves in net for Wilkes while Angelina Giglio-Tos made two saves in the win for the Blue Jays.

Wilkes is back in league play on Wednesday traveling to Williamsport, Pa. for a matchup at Lycoming College at 7:00 p.m.
