Wilkes Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Road Draw at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa - Erica Feese (State College, PA/State College Area) scored her second goal in three games as the Wilkes University women's soccer team drew 1-1 at Ira R. Herr Field against Landmark opponents Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon.

The draw moves the Colonels at 3-5-5 overall on the year and 1-3-2 in Landmark play, while Elizabethtown sit at 3-7-3 overall and remain tied with the Colonels at 1-3-2 in Landmark play

The Blue Jays put pressure on the Colonel defense early, forcing two saves out of Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) in the first ten minutes of play. It paid off, as Maddie McWhinney put a shot past Landis at 18:54 in the game to give Elizabethtown the lead. Marissa Vandernick was credited with the assist.

Elizabethtown took their 1-0 lead into the half-time break, and out-shot the Colonels 10-3 in the first frame.

Wilkes found the equalizer at 69:32, after Cesia Diaz (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) laid out a pass for Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) who sent a through ball forward that found Feese and soon the back of the net off the left foot of the fifth year forward. Elizabethtown continued to pour on the shots in hopes to regain the lead, outshooting the Colonels in the second half 7-4, but a late save by Landis kept out any potential game-winning goal, and the Colonels took a crucial point on the road with only three Landmark Conference games left to play.

Holly Feese (State College, PA/State College Area) matched her older sister Erica at the top of the shot chart for the Colonels with two each, while Landis made six saves in the contest.

Vandernick led the Blue Jays with five shots on the day to go with her assist, as goalkeeper Rena Rankin made three saves on the day.

The Colonels last three games all take place at Bruggeworth Field, kicking off the homestand on Tuesday, October 17 against Lycoming College at 7:00 p.m.
