Jennings Late Goal Earns Wilkes Women's Soccer 1-1 Draw with Lycoming

EDWARDSVILLE – Junior defender Jordyn Jennings (York, PA/Northeastern) scored an 88th minute equalizer for her first career goal as the Wilkes University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with visiting Lycoming College Tuesday night at Bruggeworth Field in Landmark Conference action.

Wilkes went to 1-3-3 in the Landmark Conference and to 3-5-6 overall. Lycoming's record went to 1-2-4 in the league and 5-3-6 overall.

The Warriors had the first opportunity of the contest in the sixth minute as Julia Bidelspach's run into the box found the end of a free kick from midfield. Her shot was saved by Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and then a subsequent shot was blocked by a Colonel defender.

The Colonels first shot came in the 16th minute by Erica Feese (State College, PA/State College Area) as her attempt went wide to the left of goal. Lycoming responded in the 18th with a chance that went high and to the right of goal. Back-to-back chances for Wilkes from Lauren Lefchak (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and E. Feese were off target in the 21st and 22nd minutes.

Landis made her second save in the 25th minute. Mikayla Long dribbled into the left side of the Colonels box in the 32nd minute and lofted a shot that hit off the crossbar and stayed out of the Colonels goal as the game stayed scoreless.

In the 36th minute E. Feese found room at the right of box and fired a shot that went high. Landis added two more saves in the 39th and 41st minutes to keep the game scoreless.

Sarah Eliff's (Owings, MD/Northern) shot in the 42nd minute was blocked by a Warriors defender as was a shot by Cesia Diaz (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) in the 43rd. The Colonels earned the first corner of the game with 15 seconds left until the half and Jess Shea's (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) shot was blocked inside the box as the game went to the break scoreless.

Long had a great opportunity to put the Warriors ahead in the 50th minute as she was able to find room dribbling into the box but Landis came out of goal to cut the angle and made a huge save.

In the 51st minute E. Feese struck a shot following a short corner that was saved by Abbey Gerasimoff. Three minutes later a repeat corner play found the ball on Feese's left foot again at the top-right corner of the box and her shot narrowly went over the crossbar.

The Warriors earned a free kick near midfield that resulted in a dangerous chance in the box. Eventually Kaitlyn Born's cross found Long at the six-yard box in front of net and her left-footed shot beat Landis to put Lycoming up 1-0 in the 61st minute. It was her ninth goal of the season.

Landis made a save off a Warriors header in the box in the 72nd minute to keep the deficit at one.

In the 76th minute Diaz was able to get a defended shot off in the box that Gerasimoff was able to pick up.

Wilkes earned a corner kick at the 86:44 mark which Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) placed at the far portion of the six-yard box. A deflection off a Warriors defender went to Jennings in the middle of the box and she was able to volley a shot into the top of the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the 88th minute.

One final attempt by Madison Straub (Franklin, NJ/Franklin) in the closing half minute was saved as the game ended in a draw.

The game ended with each team taking 12 shots. Lycoming had seven on goal compared to four for Wilkes. The Colonels earned five corner kicks to the Warriors one and Lycoming had nine fouls to the Colonels eight.

Landis made six saves for Wilkes in the tie while Gerasimoff made three for Lycoming.

The Colonels return to action for Senior Day on Saturday at Bruggeworth Field for a 3:30 p.m. Landmark Conference contest against Catholic University.
