Wilkes Men's Soccer Bested by Juniata 2-0
HUNTINGDON, PA - The Wilkes men's soccer team took a tough road loss in Landmark Conference play on Saturday as they fell to Juniata College 2-0 at Gibbel Stadium.
The loss drops the Colonels to 3-4-4 on the year and 1-2-1 in conference play, while Juniata improved to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play.
The Eagles opened the scoring at 17:29 in the contest, as midfielder Emmet Young put a shot in the back of the net. Juniata dominated the offense in the first half with eight shots, as the Wilkes attack failed to register a shot.
Nick Kinzler (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) saved four shots in the first frame of play.
Juniata defender Ryan Angelone doubled the Eagle lead in the second half at 65:54 and held that scoreline for the last 25 minutes to take the victory. The Colonel offense found their rhythm in the second half, out-shooting Juniata eight to four, but couldn't find a goal. Kinzler made one save in the frame.
Juniata led the game in shots with 12 to Wilkes' eight and were able to put more on target with seven to the Colonels' four shots on target. Wilkes held the advantage on corner kicks six to three over the Eagles.
Jesse Lippner (Mt. Olive, NJ/Mt. Olive) and
Seth Marsteller (Coplay, PA/Whitehall) led the Colonels in shots with two each, while Kinzler made five total saves in net.
Young, Nathan Weick, and Ian Edwards tied as shot leaders for the Eagles with three each, while goalkeeper Axel Grater made four saves.
The Colonels return home to Bruggeworth Field for their next contest on Tuesday, October 10 as they host the University of Scranton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
